The Libertarian Party of Boulder County(LPBC) is an affiliate of the Libertarian Party of Colorado chapter of the Libertarian Party. The LPBC provides local support for the principlesand platform of the Libertarian Party – by promoting local candidates and ballot issues, discussing and disseminating information, and leading others to Libertarian ideas. As of Jan. 13 2007, this web site will be actively maintained, but it will likely take us quite a while to get everything updated that needs it.

Written by LPBC Chair, Eva Kosinski, in YourHub.com

In case you haven't noticed, there have not been many candidate forums for this mid term election, where you can find out about the candidates, rather than focus on the ballot issues. The Libertarian Party of Boulder County has decided to provide a forum to the public so that you can ask the candidates the questions you want answers to.

Your vote is important, and you should not cast it until you've heard all of your options. If you are sick of hearing the same old same old from the major parties, take a couple of hours to listen to alternatives. Libertarian candidates remember that tax money is something that you could be using at home for your families and your future; it is to be spent carefully and wisely. Libertarian candidates believe in open government and your right to know how all that money gets spent. And, lastly, Libertarian candidates believe in the wisdom of the Constitution and the freedom of the individual to think and act in his or her own best interest without government intervention.

If you've voted major parties all your life and have not been happy with what you got in return, come and listen. You might be very surprised. If you are worried about "wasting your vote" on a third party candidate, think about whether you got what you wanted from the major parties. You might have been wasting your vote all along.

Notes from the Chair:

We held our first Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on Feb 28, 2007 at Country Buffet in Longmont, where 15 of our members were recognized for their work in a number of different areas. We hope to do this again next year; it was a lot of fun. See the newsletter for photos.

Folks honored were: Rand Fanshier (ran for State House), Dwight Harding (ran for Attorney General), Kristen Hoyer (current Board), Eva Kosinski (current Board), Howard Lambert (work with booths and training), Derik Lane (current Board), Randy Luallin (current Board and ran for County Commissioner), Norm Olsen (ran for US Senate), Jerry Owen (handled Randy Luallin's campaign), Dan Ong (ran for CU Regent), Bo Shaffer (ran for County Sheriff, past Board chair, Parade float driver), Ralph Shnelvar (Lib. lunch and publicity), Paul Tiger (past Board, election reform, and "Lady Liberty" for parades), Jerry Van Sickle (work on Land Use regulations and Land Use Coalition), and Greg Woods (current Board).

RECENT EVENTS:

The first of a number of upcoming election-related events was held last fall in Longmont -- A Candidates Forum, hosted by the Longmont Times-Call. They invited ALL the candidates (sadly, all could not be there, but most sent replacements), so should you have an opportunity to communicate to the Times-Call, please let them know that we appreciate their thoroughness in an age where most of the media spends a good deal of time ignoring minor party candidates.

UPCOMING EVENTS: (SEE THE WEBSITE UNDER EVENTS) There are a number of events being sponsored by other organizations where LPBC members are speaking, that you may want to attend.

SATURDAY, OCT 12 5-7 PM LOUISVILLE REC CENTER LPBC will be hosting a "Libertarian Candidates Forum" at the Louisville Recreation Center on October 28. It will be from 5-7 on Saturday, and we have a room that will hold 100 people. We will have trifold flyers in the next couple of days. PLEASE let us know ( outreach@lpboulder.org or chair@lpboulder.org) if you can get flyers around to places like libraries, coffee shops, etc. This will be a good opportunity for our candidates to speak. Please come if you can. A big room looks empty if we don't have enough people. Neither the League of Women Voters, nor the Business and Professional Women, traditionally strong supporters of candidate forums, chose NOT to hold one this year, in favor of covering ballot issues, leaving voters out in the cold, so we are likely to pick up some attendees.

I've got indications from both organizations that they would work with us on one next time around, so next election, we'll have to be on the ball earlier in the process so we can get on candidates' schedules and get everyone, not just Libertarians, and work with groups that do care about getting information out there so they don't have to choose between candidates and ballot issues.

CANDIDATES STILL NEED ASSISTANCE
Write Letters to the Editor supporting Libertarian candidates Put up a yard sign - this is prime time to get them out there Host a house party for a candidate of your choice (be sure to check their schedules)
Check the candidates websites and lpcocandidates.org for a list of all of them.
Write an article for yourhub.com about a candidate of your choice Tell everyone you know who the lib candidates are.

COUNTY CLERK IS STILL SEARCHING FOR ELECTION JUDGESIf you care about keeping elections honest, volunteer to be an election judge on Nov 7 and be sure no tampering gets done. Call 303-413-7754 to sign up. I just checked this morning, and they still need people.
Overloaded election judges trying to do several people's jobs can contribute to mistakes and problems. PLEASE get into the trenches and help make our elections better.

That's the news for now.
